The way books are published and purchased has drastically changed in recent years. Writers no longer have to jump through dozens of hoops with publishers before their book has a chance of seeing the bookstore shelf.
The Rise of Self-Publishing
In the beginning, self-publishing functioned as a ‘pay to play’ system. At best, it was unaffordable and at worse it was a scam. Writers with dreams of being published often ended up paying thousands of dollars for a few books they sold to friends and family.
Self-Publishing Today
Today, self-publishing makes it possible for anyone to write and publish their book. This levels the playing field, allowing everyone, including women, POC, non-binary, and queer folx, to take their work directly to readers.
Unfortuanlty, self-publishing still gets a bad rap and many readers stick to the best-seller lists. Which is unfortunate.
Our goal is to help change that by providing straightforward reviews so readers feel confident purchasing and reading self-published books.
